AWWQ membership is open to war widows who are designated Gold Card holders by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), which means that the death of their husband or partner has been accepted as being due to war causes. Becoming a member also allows you to vote for Directors to serve on the Board and vote on changes put forward by the Board.
Memberships are valid for a period of 12 months, from 1 April to 31 March the following year
All new applicants must fill and submit an application form with an annual $20 membership fee. Membership renewal payments are due at the end of March each year.
Volunteering is a great way to contribute your skills and experience, connect with new people and support your community. AWWQ has recently launched a volunteer program providing opportunities for the wider community to get involved in our work, projects, activities and support war widows.
HOW CAN I HELP AWWQ?
There are so many ways to get involved! Making a donation, leaving a bequest in your Will, telling people about AWWQ and encouraging them to become associate members or volunteering your time, experience and skills. We are looking for people who are willing to give their time and offer practical and social support to our war widows and/or office staff who are working on various projects to support our members.
Volunteering opportunities include:
Your generosity will help us provide war widows in Queensland with an environment of friendship and mutual support, advocacy for current issues, access to information, referral andsupport. By contributing towards our work, you are honouring the sacrifices and struggles of war widows and their lost loved ones helping make a difference in their lives.
AWWQ has been able to continue supporting war widows due to generous bequests left to our organisation. If you are making a bequest, it is important that the correct entity is named in your Will.
Whatever the gift may be, it is important that the correct terminology is used. If you have already made a bequest, I encourage you to review your Will to ensure the gift can be properly administered. As you know, there has been a change of name and an amalgamation of the various companies which comprise the Australian War Widows (Queensland) and it is important that the correct entity is described.
The Board recommends the use of the following wording:
“I leave ____________ to Australian War Widows (Queensland) ABN 88 009 708 810 of Legacy House, 41 Merivale Street, South Brisbane in the State of Queensland absolutely for the general purposes of the said charity and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors”.
There are no vacancies at this time.
